Divisions & Age Groups

Players can enter our league playing co-ed T-ball at 5 years old and we have baseball divisions serving boys from age 6 to 15.  Ages indicated for the 2025 season are based on the child's age as of April 30th, 2025.

  • T-ball - T-ball for boys and girls age 5.

  • Lob Baseball - coach pitch for ages 6-7.

  • Minors Baseball - player pitch for age 8. Players are evaluated and assigned to teams.

  • Juniors Baseball - for ages 9-10. Players are evaluated and assigned to teams.

  • Seniors Baseball - for ages 11-12. Players are evaluated and assigned to teams.

  • Pony (DSA) Baseball - for ages 13-15*.  Huntertown Lions Baseball sponsors team(s) of 13-15 year-olds to play against teams from other leagues.

    • This league is a competitive league and includes teams from Churubusco, Leo, Avilla, Garrett and Kendallville to name a few.

    • Like a school league, about half of the league games will be played at Huntertown and the other half at the home field of the team being played.

    • It is an especially great fit for kids that would still like to play baseball beyond the Senior league, but weren't sure what options were available to them.

    • This is a tryout league and Huntertown will attempt to form as many teams possible while still being competitive. Please go ahead and register now . If we are unable to place you on a team, we will refund your registration.

    • *Boys age 15 can play on Huntertown Lions' Pony league teams, but are disqualified if they play on their high school baseball team.

Evaluations:

Mandatory evaluations will be held for Minors, Junior and Senior divisions (no evaluations for T-Ball or Lob Ball divisions) as well as Pony (DSA) Baseball. Evaluations typically include fielding, throwing, pitching, and hitting in order to evenly assign/draft skills among the teams. Evaluation dates are as follows:

  • Monday, April 7th @ 6:30 pm (CHS Alumni Gym) - Minor Baseball

  • Tuesday, April 8th @ 6:30 pm (CHS Alumni Gym) - Junior Baseball

All evaluations are held at Carroll High School in the Alumni gym. Due to construction, please enter through door 19 and check-in at the registration table. They will instruct you where to go from there.

  • No cleats, gym shoes only.

  • Gloves are required.

  • We'll have bats and helmets, but if you prefer your own, please bring it.

  • Any other equipment is up to the discretion of the player.

Clean-up & Set-up Service Day:
Saturday, April 12th @ 9 AM (Rain Out Day: Sunday, April 13th @ Noon)

As part of keeping our costs low, we hold a Service Day and rely on the community service efforts of our participating families and coaches to help clean-up the park from winter’s debris, set up fences and batting cage nets, set out picnic tables and trash cans, prepare team equipment bags and get the park ready for the season.

We have most equipment ready and available, but it never hurts to have a few extra leaf rakes, leaf blowers, sweepers, scoop shovels, cordless power drills (charged of course) for installing the fences and a couple 8’-10’ ladders to hang up the batting cage nets.

Practice Season: The practice season is April 21st* through May 18th.

  • Practice schedules are set by each team's coaches. These can be scheduled any time between 5:30-8:30 pm Monday through Friday and/or between 9 am - early-afternoon on Saturdays.

  • *Pony (DSA) practices start immediately after evaluations.

Regular Season Schedule: The regular season starts May 19th*.

  • T-Ball, Lob Baseball and Minor Baseball regular season starts May 19th and runs through July 4th. There are no end of season tournaments for these divisions.

  • Junior Baseball and Senior Baseball regular season starts May 19th and runs through July 12th. Junior Baseball and Senior Baseball end of season Tournaments are held the week of July 7th.

  • *Pony (DSA) regular season starts April 28th with a tournament the week of June 16th.
